Folk/pop duo The Lovebirds (Lindsay White and Veronica May) got a nice career boost earlier this year from winning the Kerrville (Texas) Folk Festival’s New Folk Songwriting competition and wisely strike while the iron is hot with new full-length “Breakup Shmakeup,” the tandem’s third release. It’s easy to see why The Lovebirds have shared the stage with The Lumineers, Sara Watkins and Tristan Prettyman, among others, as they effortlessly weave their magic speall over 10 uniformly excellent tracks.

The Lovebirds CD“Breakup Shmakeup” gets off to a near-perfect start with “Love Through Our Music,” “Boat Train” and “Fortunate Us” and though The Lovebirds can’t quite maintain that level of excellence, they deliver the goods (and then some) on standouts “Be,” “Whiplash,” “Catch the Rain” and “Because of Love.” Here’s hoping White and May find their way to Pittsburgh in the very near future.
