Texas metal outfit Adakain have been kicking around in some form or fashion for the better part of a decade. After some lineup shuffles — including bringing a new singer on board — the Dallas-based four-piece look to expand their profile with the release of new album “Never Coming Home.”

Adakain CD“Our band goal is to play heavy music that is unconventional yet recognizable, that gives a message of fun, individuality and encourages people to do what they love in a positive environment,” says frontman Ryan Ray, who joined Adakain in 2012 when the previous singer quit to start a family. “We want to inspire people to be better to one another, and to themselves, and to remember that we are all one and the same, and should treat each other with dignity and respect.”

There are plenty of blistering riffs on the 11-track, 40-minute slab, and “Never Coming Home” is sure to get your pulse pounding. First single “Hey Girl” is one of the album’s high points, and Adekain also deliver the goods on “All Goes to Hell,” “Hate Sex,” the title track, “We Crawl” and “Fight Back.” Though nothing here is especially original, Adakain deserve bonus points for the energy they inject into a familiar genre. Rock on, fellas. (Jeffrey Sisk)
