With their aggressive mix of pop, metal and rock, Bellusira are a band on the rise. Originally based in Australia, the quartet relocated to Los Angeles last year to up their profile in the United States. Thanks to some blistering riffs and the powerhouse vocals of frontwoman Crystal Ignite, Bellusira take a huge step forward on sophomore full-length “The Healing.”
“Some people describe us as Evanescence meets Rage Against the Machine,” Ignite notes. “I guess we are a band that doesn’t fit into one genre. We have metal, hard rock, rock and pop on our new record … good pop! The kind that needs to be played on the radio. Our band is all about writing good songs and we write what we feel, and not because we think we should be doing what we do. You have to be real and honest as musicians.”
Ignite is joined in Bellusira by Mark Dalbeth (bass), Koichi Fukuda (guitar/keys) and Tosha Jones (drums). They earned their stripes opening for the likes of Halestorm, Hellyeah and Black Stone Cherry and appear ready to conquer America.
Among the highlights of the 11-track, 38-minute slab are the opening tandem of “The Fight Master” and “dance With Me,” as well as “How Far,” “Sever,” “Redemption,” “Tonight” and the set-closing title track. Keep your eye on this up-and-coming outfit. (Jeffrey Sisk)
