Canadian singer/songwriter December Rose first popped up on the the radar in 2010 with a series of YouTube videos that highlighted her vocal and piano skills. She became a viral sensation and went on to win the 2012 Best Female Solo Artist prize on MakesAStar.com. The award upped her profile consierbly and landed the Montreal native a recording contract.
December had a club hit last year with “Came Here to Party” and empowering current single “Ball Game” is working its way up the charts. Both tunes are part of her enjoyable self-titled EP, a six-track collection of tunes that finds the young Canadian poised for stardom.
“(‘Ball Game’) aims to bring a sense of empowerment to both men and women that not only have been in this situation but to those that dare to stand their ground for their values and for choosing to be true to their hearts,” December explains.
December needs a bit more seasoning, but she’s well on her way. “Ball Game” and the dancetastic “Came Here to Party” are terrific, as is the sultry “Don’t Give Up on Love” and “Without You.” So-so entry “Understand” and a superfluous “Club Mix” of “Came Here to Party” round out the EP. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has a great record in her down the road. (Jeffrey Sisk)
