Though nobody knew it at the time of course 1975’s “Today” proved to be the final full studio album recorded by the legendary “king of rock & roll” Elvis Presley, who would die two years later. Though “Today” wasn’t one of Presley’s all-time great albums, this expansive, 2-CD “legacy edition” is a must for his legion of fans.

Elvis CDDisc 1 features the original 10-track album, highlighted by hit single “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” “Bringin’ It Back” and covers of Don McLean’s “And I Love You So,” The Statler Brothers’ “Susan When She Tried” and The Pointer Sisters’ “Fairytale.” There also are undubbed session mixes of the 10 “Today” cuts, allowing the listener to hear Presley’s unvarnished original performances of these tunes.

Disc 2 is another treat, with a series of 22 rare and collectible concert performances recorded live in May and June of 1975. In addition to renditions of songs from “Today,” Presley serves up rollicking renditions of essential tunes like “See Se Rider,” “Love Me Tender,” “All Shook Up,” “Hound Dog,” “An American Trilogy” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Long live the King.
