Born in Western Canada and raised in a tiny North Dakota town by parents she refers to as “back “back-to-the-land hippies,” folk singer/songwriter brings a wealth of life experience to her music. The enjoyable “Bright Shadow” is Egge’s seventh full-length release since 1997 and finds her collaborating with acclaimed roots trio The Stray Birds.
“They were fans of my last album (2011’s “Bad Blood”) and approached me about backing me up at Folk Alliance in Toronto 2012,” Egge says of her collaboration with The Stray Birds. “There was an immediate affinity between us and the music just flowed.”
There’s no wasted effort on the streamlined 10-track, 29-minute release, but that’s more than enough time for Egge to weave her sonic web. Among the highlights here are “Dreamer,” “Jenny Run Away,” “Rock Me (Divine Mother),” Wildflower” and “The Ballad of Jean Genet.” Good stuff. (Jeffrey Sisk)
