Finnders & Youngberg — aka FY5 — have carved out a well-deserved reputation as one of the best bands on the rich Colorado roots music scene. The quintet takes things to the next level on latest full-length “Eat the Moon,” a twangy 10-track gem that should appeal to anyone who loves roots music.
“We’re proud to have come from the traditional folk and bluegrass school,” bandleader Mike Finders explains. “Yet we put that all aside and do our best to build the songs honestly, creatively, with no predetermined agenda to play this or that kind of music.”
Finders splits the vocal duties with Erin Youngberg and the rest of the FY5 roster is rounded out by Aaron Youngberg, Ryan Drickey and Rich Zimmerman. Each members brings valuable tools to the table.
Erin Youngberg shines brightest on opener “She Wants to Eat the Moon,” “The Day Is Wide Open” and “What Did I Do,” while Finder soars on “Desert Bluebell,” “Back Door,” “Watch Out for the Blues” and “Mama’s Cookin’.” Enjoy, y’all. (Jeffrey Sisk)
