Boy-girl chillwave duo MS MR generated plenty of buzz with their 2013 debut album “Secondhand Rapture,” including charting with alternative radio single “Hurricane,” and look to build on that solid foundation with first-rate sophomore slab “How Does It Feel.” Having upped their profile with assorted late-night television and music festival appearances, MS MR’s star is definitely on the rise.
Lizzy Plapinger handles the vocals for MS MR, with Max Hershenow taking care of the music, and the duo returned to their Brooklyn stomping grounds late last year to hammer out new material. This time around they collaborated with other musicians, including Tove Lo and MNDR, and the results are impressive.
The album gets off to a fantastic start with “Painted,” “Criminals” and personal favorite “No Guilt in Pleasure.” And even though MS MR can’t maintain that level of excellence over the course of the entire 12-track, 44 minute platter, Plapinger and Hershenow also score with “Tripolar,” the title track, “Leave Me Alone,” “Reckless” and “All the Things Lost.” Good stuff.
