Minnesota-based singer/songwriter Dan Rodriguez has spent the better part of a decade trying to break into the mainstream consciousness and he inches ever closer to that goal with latest full-length album “Come on Home.”
“I finally made the album I’ve always wanted to make,” Rodriguez notes. “There comes a point for an independent artist where you either play it safe and plateau, or you take a huge leap up to the next level. This record is one giant leap of faith and hope and belief in these songs.”
Chances are you’ve heard at least one Rodriguez tune — “I’ll Be Waiting (When You Come)” was commissioned for the wildly popular Budweiser “Friends Are Waiting” commercial — even if you didn’t realize it. Happily that terrific tune is included on the 10-track, 39-minute release.
Additional highlights include “New Kind of Love,” “California,” the Gavin DeGraw-esque “It’s About You,” “Milk & Honey” and “Believe.” Here’s hoping that “Come on Home” helps raise Rodriguez’s profile because his music deserves to be heard by as many people as possible. (Jeffrey Sisk)
