You can add Pete Krebs and Leslie Beia — aka The Earnest Lovers — to the long list of first-rate male/female duos in country music. Their chemistry, both personal and professional, is evident throughout terrific debut EP “Sing Sad Songs.”
Krebs got his start in the grunge scene of the early 1990s before turning his attention to roots music. He met Portland, Ore.-based country singer Beia and they bonded over their love of vintage country music. That shared affinity shines through on a six-track release that serves as a fantastic introduction to The Earnest Lovers.
The twosome comes out of the gate firing with keepers “San Andreas Fault,” “Lights of Anita,” personal favorite “Angel of Sunrise” and “Still Missing You.” After the good-but-not-great “No Songs Came By Today,” The Earnest Lovers wrap things up with stellar closer “Everybody’s Trying to Be My Pal.” Keep your eye on this talented couple.
