All-girl indie rock outfit PINS made a nice splash a couple years ago with the release of their 2013 debut album, fittingly titled “Girls Like Us.” The ladies have evolved their sound even more for album No. 2, the intriguing “Wild Nights,” and the Manchester, England-based outfit seems on the verge of a breakthrough.
Faith Vern (vocals/guitar), Anna Donigan (bass), Lois McDonald (guitar), Sophie Galpin (drums) and Kyoko Swann (synths/guitar) have cobbled together a consistently enjoyable 11-track record that speeds by in a very economical 40 minutes. Word of mouth is spreading about PINS, who are booking some headlining gigs after touring in support of Sleater Kinney, Crocodiles, Warpaint, The Growlers and The Fall.
Lead single “Too Little Too Late” is the best of a very good bunch, with PINS also delivering the goods on standouts like “Baby Bhangs,” “Young Girls,” “Curse These Dreams” “Oh Lord,” “House of Love,” “Molly” and “Everyone Says.” Now’s the time to get on board the PINS train. This is a talented young band whose star is on the rise. (Jeffrey Sisk)
