There’s a distinct Led Zeppelin-ish vibe to the self-titled debut EP from Los Angeles-based rock trio Lunar Electric. Comprised of guitarist/vocalist Dre DiMura, drummer Kaleen Reading and bassist Geena Spigarelli, Lunar Electric stomp there way through a high-octane 17-minute set.
DiMura and Reading formed Lunar Electric out of the ashes of Resin Gypsy, a band that earned some buzz with their 2012 self-titled debut. Though they disbanded after just eight months, Reading and DiMura continued working together and with Spigarelli onboard, the new band took shape.
Things get off to a first-rate start with “Bread & Circuses” and personal favorite “Moonlight,” a tune that wouldn’t have been out of place on Zep’s “Houses of the Holy” or “Physical Graffiti.” “Sleepwalker” is another winner and the so-so “Crossfire Child” brings the four-track slab to an end. Keep an eye on Lunar Electric. (Jeffrey Sisk)
