New York City-based Lane Moore is a true renaissance woman. Moore is a writer/actor/musician/stand-up comic/podcast host/comic book publisher who never seems to have any difficulty staying busy. It Was Romance started as a solo musical outlet for Moore but has evolved into a full-fledged band with the additions of Alejandro Triana (guitar), Angel Lozada (drums) and Jeff Connors (bass).
It Was Romance make an impressive debut with this self-titled first full-length. Keepers such as “Philadelphia,” “But Not Forgotten,” the Cranberries-esque “Hooking Up With Girls” and “It’s Like You’re Not Even Trying” show some real potential … assuming Moore can find the time to focus on her musical endeavors.
The album falls just short of being an essential addition to your collection, but the foundation is there. Moore is a first-rate songwriter and has a talented cast of backing musicians surrounding her. If she ever makes music her top priority, the sky’s the limit for It Was Romance. (Jeffrey Sisk)
