The R&B-tinged pop of newcomer Mikaela Kahn takes me back to my teenage years when Anita Baker was ruling the charts and airwaves with tunes like “Sweet Love,” “Caught Up in the Rapture” and “Giving You the Best That I Got.” Kahn makes an impressive debut with the silky smooth “Milk & Honey,” a seven-track release that showcases her vocal prowess and songwriting chops.

Mikaela CD“I’m not afraid to write about things and are personal and vulnerable,” says Kahn, who was won and/or placed in a handful of songwriting contests over the past couple years.. “I think that makes for more authentic songs.”

The Austin, Texas, native grabs the listener from the outset with rousing opener “Fire & Lace” and later impresses with “Chemical Attraction,” “Believe,” “I Want You” and Baker-esque closer “Where You Are.” Kahn has laid down a terrific sonic foundation with “Milk & Honey” and I’m eager to hear what this talented young artist comes up with next.
