Colorado five-piece Trout Steak Revival opened a lot of eyes on the modern bluegrass scene last year with a win at the 41st Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition and they look to build on that momentum with the release of third full-length “Brighter Every Day.” Produced by Chris Pandolfi of The Infamous Stringdusters, this dynamite record should raise Trout Steak Revival’s profile considerably.
Band members Steve Foltz (mandolin/guitar), Casey Houlihan (standup bass), Will Koster (dobro/guitar), Travis McNamara (banjo) and Bevin Foley (fiddle) clearly had a blast recording this 11-track gem of originals. In addition to first-rate musicianship, Trout Steak Revival boast tight harmonies from all five principles, giving their music multiple layers of awesomeness.
The collective comes out of the gate firing on all cylinders with “Union Pacific” and personal favorite “Get a Fire Going,” and later hit all the right notes on keepers “Brighter Every Day,” “Ours for the Taking,” “Sierra Nevada,” “Go On” and “Colorado River.” Enjoy, y’all. (Jeffrey Sisk)
