There’s a new duo to keep an eye on these days in rootsy twosome Striking Matches. Guitarist/vocalists Sarah Zimmerman and Justin Davis have teamed up with legendary producer T Bone Burnett for first-rate debut album “Nothing But the Silence,” a dynamic release that blends rock, country and the blues into a tasty sonic stew.

Striking Matches CD“The fact that we are releasing our debut album in itself is a dream come true,” Zimmerman explains. “I have to pinch myself every time I tell someone that one of our all-time biggest heroes, T Bone Burnett, produced our record. Just to be in the same room with him is an honor, let alone working in the studio with him.”

They’ve gotten added exposure from the ABC drama “Nashville,” which has featured eight Striking Matches tunes in various episodes of the country music primetime soap. Zimmerman and Davis come out of the gates firing with keepers “Trouble Is as Trouble Does” and “Make a Liar Out of Me,” and later hit all the right notes on standouts “Hanging on a Lie,” “When the Right One Comes Along,” “What a Broken Heart Feels Like” and “Missing You Tonight.” I can’t wait to hear more.
