After spending more than a decade as a key member of acclaimed indie rock outfit Arcade Fire, Will Butler steps out on his own with the release of solo debut “Policy.” The younger brother of Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler, Will and Owen Pallett were nominated for a 2014 Academy Award for scoring the Spike Jonze film “Her.”
“Policy” is a rock-solid debut for the younger Butler, who reveals himself to be a first-rate songwriter and more-than-capable vocalist. The eight-track, 27-minute platter was recorded in one week at the legendary Electric Lady Studios and there’s no filler to be found.
Butler sets the tone with “Take My Side” and the keepers continue with “Finish What I Started,” “Son of God,” “What I Want” and “Sing to Me.” Butler will be performing a 21-and-over show at Pittsburgh’s Brillobox on Thursday, March 12, at 9 p.m. with special guest Teen. Tickets are $11 and you can get more information at www.brillobox.net. Make sure to check it out. (Jeffrey Sisk)
