I confess to knowing nothing about Milwaukee-based rockers The Delta Routine before latest full-length “You and Your Lion,” their fourth, came across my desk a few weeks back. Well even though I’m a little late to the party, you better believe this talented outfit is on my radar from here on out.
This 11-track release is loads of fun, with the guys blending elements of garage rock, power-pop, classic rock and a touch of Americana twang into a sound that’s all their own. Having spun “You and Your Lion” a handful of times, I plan on tracking down their first three albums (2008’s “Donna,” 2011’s “More About You” and 2012’s “Cigarettes & Caffeine Nightmares”) to get a fix of The Delta Routine.
Things get off to a terrific start on the new album with “Chains Off Me,” “Gone Again” and “On a Saturday Night,” and the lads later soar on “Queen of New Jersey,” the title track, “On a Roll,” “Hard to Blame Her” and “Don’t You Wait So Long.” Highly recommended. (Jeffrey Sisk)
