Chicago-based blues rockers The Steepwater Band have been kicking around for almost two decades and, though they’ve never become a household name, the guys have earned plenty of kudos for their blistering brand of guitar blues.
“Diamond Days” is the perfect introduction to The Steepwater Band, as the 10-track release focuses on their best material of the recent past. The longtime trio (Jeff Massey on vocals and guitar, Joseph Winters on drums and Todd Bowers on bass) added a fourth member to the fray in 20012 — guitarist Eric Saylors — and “Diamond Days” features their first studio recordings as a quartet.
In addition to classic tunes like “Come on Down,” “Revelation Sunday,” “High and Humble” and “Healer,” the new album includes a stellar brand-new track (“Silver Lining”) and a new version of longtime fan favorite “Hard as Stone.” If you like what you hear on “Diamond Days” — and I can’t think why you wouldn’t — be on the lookout for a new studio album later this year. Rock on fellas. (Jeffrey Sisk)
