Big-voiced newcomer George Ezra is poised for stardom. The British singer/songwriter has won over audiences throughout Europe and his fantastic “Wanted on Voyage” full-length debut is finally available on our shores. You may already have heard his worldwide hit single “Budapest,” and I assure you that the rest of the record is every bit as good.
“Wanted on Voyage” gets off to a terrific start with the opening salvo of “Blame It on Me,” the aforementioned “Budapest” and “ Cassy O’,” and Ezra later scores with “Listen to the Man,” “Leaving It Up to You,” “Drawing Board,” “Breakaway” and “Spectacular Rival.” In truth, there really isn’t a clunker to be found on the 12-track gem.
Ezra has earned supporting slots on North American tours with Sam Smith and Hozier, and I’m guessing it’s just a matter of time until the 21-year-old is selling out big venues all by himself. Do yourself a favor and seek out “Wanted on Voyage.” You’ll be glad you did. (Jeffrey Sisk)
