Detroit native Chris Moore’s career has taken a lot of twists and turns over the past 30 years or so. The singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist first earned acclaim as a member of influential hardcore outfit Negative Approach in the 1980s and later joined rootsy outfit Crossed Wire before embarking on a solo career under the Moore & Sons moniker.
Three years after his last Moore & Sons release, “Holdouts,” Moore is back with “Harmless Blues,” a dynamic alternative folk effort that dabbles in rock, pop and the blues … with just a touch of Moore’s old-school punk aesthetic. “Harmless Blues” is an enjoyable 11-track release that showcases Moore’s gifts as an award-winning songwriter.
Things get off to a so-so start with the title track, but Moore soon finds his stride with keepers “Before We Fade,” “Pushed Out the Door,” “The Mood Is On,” personal favorite “Way Up Where,” “What Brings Us Together Now?” and “There Goes a Light.” Good stuff. (Jeffrey Sisk)
