Meat Wave keep things loud and energetic on ‘Brother’ EP

There’s precious little wasted energy in the music of Chicago punk trio Meat Wave. The high-octane tunes are short and (not so) sweet as Joe Gac, Chris Sutter and Ryan Wizniak roll out one searing riff after another. The guys opened some eyes with their self-titled debut album in 2012 and Meat Wave continue in the same vein on latest EP “Brother.”

Meat Wave CDThe seven-track release speeds by in just 17 minutes, but that’s more than enough time to recognize that Meat Wave are the real deal. There are a pair of brand-new tunes — keepers “Sunlight” and “Sham King” — to go along with two unreleased demos (“The Truth” and “I’ve Got Ants”), two tunes from the full-length (the awesome title track and so-so “It’s Not Alright”) and a cover of The Wipers’ “Mystery.” If you like your music loud and invigorating, give Meat Wave a try.
