Better late than never, I suppose. It’s been six long years since veteran punks NOFX starred in the Fuse reality series “Backstage Passport” but the guys have finally gotten around to releasing a soundtrack for the show. In fairness, production is wrapping up on a second season of “Backstage Passport” and this 15-track includes material from both years.
Fat Mike, Eric Melvin, El Hefe and Erik Sandin follow a tried and true blueprint on “Backstage Passport Soundtrack” and diehard fans figure to appreciate a handful of previously unreleased NOFX to add to their collection. Casual fans, however, don’t figure to be quite as enamored with this gathering of mediocre-to-slightly-above-average tunes.
There are a few nice moments to be found on the 33-minute slab — most notably “No Fun in Fundamentalism,” “Insulted By Germans (Again),” “Leaving Jesusland” and “Last Night Was Really Fun?” — but those gems are offset by throwaway cuts like “The Greatest Country in the World,” “I, Melvin” and “Punk Rock Passport.” (Jeffrey Sisk)
