Canadian songstress Lisa LeBlanc calls her music “trash folk,” but there is noting at all trashy about her raw blend of folk and garage rock. She released her French language self-titled debut album last year, eventually hitting No. 3 on the French charts, and is hoping for even more success with inaugural English effort “Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted.”

Lisa LeBlanc CDIt’s a terrific six-song EP that showcases the 24-year-old LeBlanc’s gifts as a singer/songwriter and could be the record that puts her on the map in the United States. Things get off to a fast start with “You Look Like Trouble (But I Guess I Do Too)” and “Katie Cruel,” and LeBlanc also hits all the right notes on the title track and “Gold Diggin’ Hoedown.”

My only real complaint about “Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted” is that it speeds by in a way-too-short 17 minutes. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for LeBlanc to grace us with another full-length recording. Fingers crossed. (Jeffrey Sisk)
