It’s been five long years since we last heard from Githead, the experimental indie rock band comprised of Colin Newman, Malka Spigel, Max Franken and Robin Rimbaud. All four members spent the lengthy sabbatical pursuing other creative ventures and at last are ready to write the next chapter in the Githead story.
“One person starts, and we all fall into it,” Spigel says of the band’s enduring chemistry. “That’s how Githead works — we’re used to just falling in with each other. We’re so easy together that sometimes I don’t remember how things started. We just do it.”
The rock-solid “Waiting for a Sign” is the follow-up to 2009’s “Landing” LP and though the familiar Githead sonic elements are in place, they’ve made a conscious effort to move things forward on the nine-track platter.
Though the new album pales slightly in comparison to 2007 masterpiece “Art Pop,” Githead impress with tunes like “Bringing the Sea to the City,” “For the Place We’re In,” “Air Dancing” and hypnotic personal favorite “Slow Creatures.” Welcome back. (Jeffrey Sisk)
