We should all have so much energy when we are pushing 80 years of age. On Sept. 12, 2013, the inimitable Leonard Cohen took to the stage in Dublin, Ireland, for a jaw-droppingly impressive concert. With two sets and an encore, the show ran more than three hours. Not bad for a guy just a couple weeks shy of his 79th birthday.
That magical night is chronicled on dynamite three-CD/one-DVD set “Live in Dublin.” Shot in high definition during the height of Cohen’s Old Ideas world tour, the veteran singer/songwriter weaves his magic throughout the lengthy show.
There’s a nice mix of old and new songs, highlighted by “Dance Me to the End of Love,” “Bird on the Wire,” “Everybody Knows,” “Amen,” “Come Healing,” “Tower of Song,” “Suzanne,” “Chelsea Hotel #2,” “I’m Your Man,” “Hallelujah,” “So Long, Marianne,” “Famous Blue Raincoat,” “Closing Time” and “I Tried to Leave You.” The DVD even includes a trio of live bonus cuts — “Show Me the Place,” “Anyhow” and “Different Sides” — recorded earlier in 2013 on the Canadian leg of the tour.
Like a fine wine, Leonard Cohen keeps getting better with age. (Jeffrey Sisk)
