Country duo Florida Georgia Line — aka Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard — exploded onto the scene with their 2012 debut album “Here’s to the Good Times” and went on to set a record when their single “Cruise” topped the Billboard country charts for 24 consecutive weeks last year. The guys are back with sophomore platter “Anything Goes,” a good-but-not-great collection of 12 tunes that five Florida Georgia Line’s fans exactly what they want. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
“We’ve built this from the ground up,” Kelley explains. “That’s something we never take for granted. Tyler and I are hands on with it all, from set list to email. Everything we do, we have put the FGL stamp on it. This is our love and our passion. We run it as a business … and a party.”
“Anything Goes” is chock full of the signature Florida Georgia Line party anthems, with the guys especially impressive on the title track, “Dirt,” “Sippin’ on Fire,” “Bumpin’ the Night” and set closer “Every Night.” Less effective is the reggae-tinged “Sun Daze,” which sounds a little forced. All in all, though, this is a record that should keep the career momentum going strong. (Jeffrey Sisk)
